Welcome to the Baby Wants it’s Bottle Poetry Inc Podcast, a creative project by Martin Anton Smith, a New Zealand based Creative. In this Episode a special non poetry instalment – an Essay which discusses God and Science, and wether Science can uncover the clues that will lead us to the ultimate questions. Without further ado let’s begin! The title of this essay is called “Will Science One Day Show Us The Realms Of God, The Universe and Everything? Will We Recognise The Clues ?

Disclaimer: I regard myself as a Christian, but a rational one. There’s no easy way to know anything more than what your mind and gut tell, and the path to enlightenment is a long and winding road. I am no biblical or religious expert, but ancient texts like the bible has taught humanity much wisdom. I cannot scientifically say Jesus was the son of God, but I now believe that this was probably the case. All around us we see creativity, and Russian doll like levels of complexity – this question of “Is God Real”? Has another “cousin “ question – “Why wouldn’t there be a God?”. 

There a theory that Satan Rules earth, babies are born with a satanic soul, and the battle on earth is one where the Devil fights to retain his brotherhood of humans on earth, while God try’s to steal those souls over to the path of Love and well being. Modern type thought likes to say the reverse. natural satanic type “selfish” human nature seem the norm. “Evil from birth”, seems to ring true on an anacdotal level , and the fact is clear to me that you actually have to work hard to be loving decent and empathetic, while it’s easy to be a jerk or worse. So, I’d more agree with the former “bad at birth” theory. Of course, I also think it’s highly some families are good at being naturally loving, and pass this structure on via paternal/maternal teaching of the children, and as such there will be pockets of “Gods children” arrived at not long after birth, (or even at birth). . However given the state of well being in this world, you’d have to say Satan is winning the battle, have you ever seen a time of greater deception?. I’ve looked into a fair whack of Good/Evil God/Satan stuff lately, and while I’m definitely no scholar on the subject, if I’m a betting man I’d say this is likely to be more fact that a fallacy , as I already mentioned in the disclaimer. 

This is not to say, I believe in “religion as good”, as organised religion is certainly (can be) a power of evil- though of course loving people are often engaged in “bad religion” (Note: Bad Religion is also a 80s punk band!). On a metaphysical level, it’s pretty clear that science knows nothing of consciousness, other than that the non conscious autonomic system, does a huge amount of the highly intelligent managing of our most ultra high tech body processes (like making a human in the womb)- stuff that is many orders of magnitude higher intelligence Than our conscious efforts we can talk about. Therefore we know as a fact their are non conscious powers that manage our own bodies without our conscious input. Therefore, logically it would not be unprecedented if there were “god like” even higher level powers that control this unconscious state as well. If these powers have some opposing goals, then I think it fair that the concept God and the Devil is not totally unscientific in concept. I see this “higher level” as like a invisible blanket that covers a human being and partially or wholly shapes it’s movements , thoughts and intentions. You might also compare it to the Einsteinian Gravity  Logic – large masses/energy warp the fabric of space, and other smaller entities then become ensnared it this warpage, just as the Sun is hurtling through space, and we trail along the space time vortex trailing behind it, as does the moon in earth’s vortex. As does a man on the surface of the earth or moon.  Before Einstein, there was no theory to adaqutely explain gravity (Newton’s was essentially mathematically based, not explanatory, like Einstein’s). So for 2500 years of science (from the ancient Greeks like Aristotle) no one knew of a thing called “the fabric of space” and “a vortex in the fabric of space”, then a genius like Einstein comes along Works hard and discovers much in quick time, and from then on, we accept this as scientific fact. So the Christian idea of two opposing moral universes acting as a hidden fabric  of human intention and behaviour is almost Einsteinian Flavour, in many respects. And the idea of a “fabric of the universe” would be unpopular if it wasn’t able to be verified via experiment (1919 Arthur eddington observation), around the same time the theory was advanced (1916). Having to wait for forever for experimental confirmation/refutation is not good vs brilliance confirmed in quick time. Perhaps this is why in the western world we have lost touch with our Jude’s Christian Roots.

Let’s talk “Crazy”. What seems crazy in yesterday’s sci fi movies, has a habit of being true, the question of how to know what is “crazy” and what is “fact” Often comes down to wether our technology has evolved far enough to observe the phenomena.  On hidden psychic realms, many an ancient Shamen has claimed to observe hidden realms, but wether they did or not has never been no recorded physically, so the truth or otherwise was never fully verified for “recorded history/science”. Of course it’s quite possible the ancient shaman were correct, and groups of Shamen would see and agree on hidden psychic realms – but this would be a exclusive club, a walled garden. With our tech being now so good, have we begun to reach the point where science will ultimately settle the question of God, The Devil, Good & Evil? I think it will, and 21st Century science wonders have got us at least half way already. I guess There’s a reason they called the “Higgs Boson” the “God Particle”. But Science overall, is still shy on mentioning God of course. But Physicists, it is worth mentioning are more courageous, quirky, and willing to stand out from the crowd, compared to other scientists, so perhaps they will rise to the occasion.

Of course , I wouldn’t be being fair and evenhanded if I stopped just there, and considered the opposing argument: That science will never be able to shine a light on the biggest question ever – does God, The Devil and a whole higher spiritual plain exist. The counter argument is that science is fundamentally limited to be able to answer “spiritual questions”. The contention is that science is very good at explaining for how things work, but never why things work. The scientist can reverse engineer a theory of the universe from how the world physically looks, via inductive science (you could call it exploratory vs the deductive model, which aims to further shed light on subjects already somewhat well known – dotting the i’s – such as study of the sun system). However, it is worth mentioning this can be done conceptually , and not necessary via experiment- we know for example Einstein’s greatest experiments were all created inside his cranium via his “thought experiments”, namely that of the moving “light clock”(Special Relativity) and a man free-falling in a lift, that’s came off it’s tether (General Relativity) . The realists say of science that yes, science has done wonders at describing the universe mathematically. But they add to that, that a Scientist can never (as Steven Hawking famously put) answer the fundamental question of why the universe goes to all the trouble of existing in the first place – “who breathed fire into the equations, bringing them to life”. There is a fundamental logic to this argument that is unshakable. 

Thus I agree with them wholeheartedly, but in saying that I believe science can furnish fantastic clues that are the “crumbs that lead us to the doorway of our cottage, while we are lost in the wild forest” . For example, the period of physics from 1900-1930 in the new amazing field of “quantum mechanics” , found that elements formally only matters of the “occult” were actually physically possible and happen all the time on a subatomic level – things pop in and out of existence from nowhere, and the universe is essentially made out of tiny grains of reality called “Planks Constant” (named after Max Plank) , and there is an inbuilt cloaking factor called “The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle” (named after Werner Heisenberg) . So science has changed they way we think about the supernatural – to me that’s pretty clear in the field of quantum mechanics. So given that Quantum Theory has shown us the “Supernatural” for 80 plus years, the Question to the problem becomes this : if we agree that Science can point us roughly in the right general direction to ask the right questions about God and the Spiritual Realm, who will answer the ultimate exact questions? These will entail answers to the following interrelated questions (Note an “Einsteinian God” is a “ non biblical “ ultimate creator and designer of the universe, thus its nature is infinitely less well known vs the scripture version. Scientists who believe in God, and they are rare, believe in Einstein’s one. )  :  

1. What force created the universe in the first place and why ?
2. What’s the nature of GOD (if he exists) ?
3. What’s the nature of Satan (if he exists) ?
4. Is there something that is not a mix of a God/Satans realm, what is the explanation for the phenomena exposed by quantum mechanics and the entire universe? 
5. If God/Satan is not the answer, Could “the universe is a Simulation” be the answer? (But is this simply a reformation of the GOD question?) 
6. Is God the Einsteinian (non biblical) version of God , or the is God Of the Biblical version? 
7. What place do Human beings have in the higher cosmological sceme that is unveiled? 
8. Is there a non earth bound reward and punishment scheme in play – is it the Biblical type (heaven & hell and it’s variants) or is it Einsteinian? 
9. What is a soul, is there a soul.? 
10. What is time and can intelligence/souls exist eternally outside Earth boundaries and limitations? 
11. How will the Universe ultimately End. 

I think the history of science (Aristotle , Ptolomy, Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, Bohr, Dirac, Heisenberg Plank to name a few of the big names) and scientific revolutions , has allowed human beings to experience in awe the unfolding of new horizons, horizons that exploded old myths, but also reinforce others (e.g “Spooky action at a distance” or quantum entanglement for example Could in many ways be viewed as a confirmation of the occult heritage of dark forces acting supernaturally).  As Thomas Kuhn wrote in the seminal “the structure of scientific revolutions “ So we must say that science is just as much revolutionary , as it is piecemeal. Not that many moons ago, being a scientist was a dangerous occupation – much worse that having an Apple fall on your head. Many Middle ages scientists were killed by the church – the discipline science is powerful, it is itself a creative endeavour, it has the power to bring order from a chaos disparate set of competing ideas.  This is why the Middle Ages church killed scientists – it was a threat to them,.

Let me now consider points of the bible, namely is revelatory stories of how God is shown to people. According to the bible there is more of this to come, given the return of Christ has not happened yet. When it does – I’m a Christian don’t forget- Thus we can expect the final unveiling of the God Question to be a dramatic event, that will spurn a revolution in scientific thought, and ultimately on the “man or woman in the street” – if the answer is that God is the Biblical version , then unveiling of the events as outlined in the book of Revelations, most the answers will hit people of earth over the period of a few days – and the universes knowledge will not be filtered slowly via scientists slowly over decades, as has been the nature history of science. Of course in the west these days, no one thinks this will happen.

 According to Revelations there will be “growing pains” from the Earth, that are similar to a woman’s eventful and painful contractions before birth – in the form of mass earthquakes, swarms of locusts, floods etc, and the space between events will shorten as God’s final judgement begins – whereby a few elect souls are chosen to go to everlasting blissful existence in heaven, and the remaining are cast into a satanic realm, the lake of fire, where pain is eternal and death can never come to save the damned souls. According to Revelations one day the “sky will part, like the way a scroll rolls together” (I paraphrase). If this happens everyone (at least in the mostly secular west  ) will know that their current knowledge of the universe is Bunk. Their beliefs will be seen in the cold light of day , they will be like that in terms of complexity , to of that of a mosquito to a lion.  If this (Biblical Prophecy) , does not happen, then we must admit that if the upcoming revolutions in science unfurl The same way they have, we will not ever be able to answer the ultimate questions of God and Humanity – yes they will shed a spotlight on the nature of things, but Science has a funny property whereby the more we know, what we don’t know emerges in higher powers of magnitude.

 So, in a strange but very way, it is possible that Science is ultimately throwing up exponentially more questions than answers. This leaves us with the fact that we are relatively smarter than before (e.g. 2021 vs 1845) yet in absolute terms we are now so more aware of what we don’t know and so we may indeed be more “stupider” than we ever thought possible in 1845! This is the paradox of scientific knowledge.

 In 2021 with so many calamities coming forward, the pandemic, rising oceans , and erratic weather to name a few, it does kind of feel like we are living in the early stages of the “Book of RevelationS”. And I can’t help but feel, that ultimately , There is some truth to these ancient myths of yesteryear, and our modern western view of “total faith in science “, as “explainer Of everything”, is a deeply flawed instance of, dare I say it, dogmatism – For scientists at heart, must know they will always throw up more questions than they answer . . Simply put, the Domain of the unknown , is ever more expanding,, than the known. And I haven’t even mentioned the laws of unintended design, those products of technology that do bad things e.g pollution, deforestation, alienation . 

Perhaps the “Gut Feeling” phenomena, no doubt the result of our ancient intrinsic and unconscious higher plane existence unconscious programming, is the “ tip of the iceberg “, that is the key to understanding the true deep questions of humanity, like the nature and existence of God. Will the coming months and years see this tip of the iceberg emerge further and further from the waterline of our ignorance , and lead us to recognise what unfolds before our eyes? Or will it go the other way, on seeing dramatic new phenomena, will humanity continue to experience cognitive dissonance ? Will Humanity want to double down on a too dogmatic and ideological trust in scientific, technocratic and technological thought ? Will Science become scared with what is uncovers and choose to fail to unveil the ultimate answers (I.e. the 11 Points I mentioned earlier) to the most core questions – of God (and Satan) the Universe and everything ? If this happens , surely we would be re-entering a new dark ages, like those that killed the early scientists. It seems at the very least, that in the 21st Century and the 2020’s in particular, many of Histories balls are being thrown up in the air, how they will fall is as least as unknown as the 1920s, and we are probably living much much more dangerous and spectacular times than then. So amazing scenes are due, and the tumult will last longer , and will expand– and some form of new human understanding/way of life will emerge – that we can be sure of.
